Q: VW Jetta!!!!!!?
Do mostly women drive VW jetta’s?

A: women and homosexuals

Q: VW Jetta is slow to accelerate and is running rough, what could the problem be?
I have a 96 VW Jetta. Lately it’s been running rough when I accelerate from a stop. It will sometimes accelerate slower than normal, and jerk a bit as I get up to speed. At other times it’s fine/normal. I can’t predict when it will do this. I worried it’s a symptom that will lead to a bigger problem. Any ideas on what this could be and how I could fix it?

A: It could possibly be the fuel pump. That would be one of the worst cases though

I would
a) replace spark plugs (way cheap)
b) run some lucas upper cylinder lubricant/fuel injector cleaner through your gas tank ( a lot of it. don’t get the cheaper brands of fuel injector cleaner ONLY lucas trust me)
c) check all your spark plug wires and connections
d) oil change
e) air filter change

if none of that works, check distributor and rotor and after that it would probably be the fuel pump. Buy one yourself, and then take it to an honest mechanic Easy install dont let them rob you.

Q: VW jetta???????????????
U.S. Jetta and European Jetta (Bora)

Same or different engine parts? Interchangable?

A: for the most part the parts are interchangeable. Except in the case of some exhaust/emissions items. can you be more specific and tell me what years you’re asking about?

Q: What tools do I need to remove an 08 VW Jetta factory radio and where can I get them if it is a specialty?
I am trying to remove my Factory Radio in my 2008 VW Jetta. It is a single disc player. Also, if possible can I keep the Aux port in the armrest operational.

A: I would say go to a stereo shop, and see if they will help you out. You can also try going to ebay and doing a search for the kit. If its just a plain Aux jack that connects to the back of the stock stereo, you should not have a problem keeping the Aux port. I have an 04, but I had a pro audio dealer take care of putting a complete system in.

I use and LOVE, www.vwvortex.com If you haven’t used the site, its a VW/Audi bible. There should be step by step instructions for any vdub need.

Q: How much to repaint my 1998 VW Jetta GLS a different color than the original?
I just got my first car, an old 1998 VW Jetta GLS, which was originally dark green, but the paint is now chipping and such (I think because of the lacation of the car was close to the ocean maybe?), so I want to repaint it black, does anyone have any idea of about how much it will charge me?

A: i own a repair shop, and starting price for a good paint job is around 800 bucks right now,and they usually charge another 200 to change the color on one also, there’s a lot of extra work involved in doing this,,you could be looking at 1500 bucks real easy here to do this, and every shop is different also, they all have different labor rates ,so the price can vary a lot from one shop to another, good luck,i hope this help,s.

Q: My VW Jetta appears to have a dead battery. Can I have it charged with jumper cables?
I’ve seen people charge a car by hooking up jumper cables from a car with battery charge to the car with no charge. Is this ok to do with a VW Jetta? I know I am not supposed to use those fast charger to charge. Thanks!
Im pretty sure its my battery because I have been out of town for 3 weeks and the car was not turned on at all during that time. My husbands car did the same thing.

A: The jumper cables will get you started, but they aren’t for charging the battery. What the other guy said about driving around to charge the battery is what will do it. Also watch for the trouble light on the dash (idiot light), or charge gauge, if your car has one of those. If the light comes on, the battery isn’t being charged by the alternator and that’s the cause of it dying.

If you want to use a charger on the battery, disconnect its ground (-) first to cut the risk of ruining the alternator. Alternators are very expensive. Batteries are much cheaper.

Q: What is the difference between a regular VW Jetta and a Wolfsburg edition?
Looking into a 2003 VW Jetta Wolfsburg. What’s the difference?

A: This was a special market model that followed a long line of previous one year models, created by the marketing people at VW USA to try and expand sales in any manner that they can. Previously, VW has had the Trek edition, other Wolfsburg editions and even lately, the California edition VW Jetta…

In 2003, the Wolfsburg Jetta slotted in between the GL & GLS editions: had limited options, fairly well loaded for the price and even had a couple things not found in the GLS edition; sport front seats and 16″ special wheels where part of the package. (GLS had 15″ alloys as standard, but did have optional 17″ wheels, but no sport seats ) So, you got the power package of the GLS, (windows, mirrors etc.) am/fm/cd/casette player, trunk net, etc. But, no power sunroof, no optional leather seating or leather wrapped steering wheel, which were the big differences, besides engines: the Wolfsburg had only the 1.8 turbo motor, the GLS had either the 2.0 liter NON turbo four or the 1.8 turbo motor.

If you don’t care about leather or sunroof or having the 1.8 turbo motor, then go for it. Its priced less than a GLS model, then and now and can be a good value used. Personally, the 1.8 motor has been a hot bed of problems if its not cared for correctly; USE THE CORRECT OIL! (special VW approved synthenic oil), run on premium fuel (Its required, NOT just recommended) and has had a history of sludge build up… The 2.0 NON turbo motor is weak, has so-so fuel economy, has a history of high oil consumption (1000 miles per quart of oil is not uncommon), but is long lived and very durable if the oil level is paid attention to. In addition, the 2.0 NON turbo motor is the cheapest to maintain; NO special oil, regular gas and cheaper parts.

Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: Why does the Malfunction Indication Light on my ‘99 VW Jetta continue to stay on despite getting it worked on?
We recently bought this ‘99 VW Jetta from a private owner and the light never went on during test driving but then it continues to go on. We got it worked on and it stopped but then next time we drove it, it started again.
Any clue as to what this may be?

A: First off unhooking the battery does not work on 1996 and newer cars.
Secondly take it to a national auto parts store and let them scan it and reset the codes. If it comes back on then the code they read is your problem.

Q: how to fill and check the transmission fluid on a VW Jetta?
I have a VW Jetta 1997 with an automatic transmission. I want to know how to check and fill the Automatic transmission fluid.
VW Jetta does not have a dip stick for the transmission.

A: Start the Jetta’s engine and wait for it to warm up. When the needle on the water temperature gauge sits between the upper and lower mark on the gauge, the engine is sufficiently warm.

Open the hood and pull the looped handle out of the backside of the engine. This is the transmission dipstick, which sits in the transmission filler neck.

Wipe off the end of the dipstick and put it all the way back into the transmission filler neck.

Pull the dipstick back out of the filler neck and check the transmission fluid level. The fluid level should sit between the upper and lower marks on the bottom end of the dipstick.

If you need to add any fluid, you will need a funnel and you fill through the dipstick tube.

Check plug is on driver side of transmission about halfway up. It has an indent in it that you can put the head of a bolt in. Fill till fluid runs out of plug hole

Q: How many miles can a Vw Jetta have before being unusable?
I wanted to know how many miles a VW Jetta could get before being like just waste. Mine is a 1999 VW jetta 4 cylinder and has about 222.xxx. So how many more can I put on it? Its been very well maintained and I just replaced the clutch on it.
Best answer gets 10 points.

A: German iron is the best, if you take care of it, it will last forever, usually the body rots off before the drivetrain goes! I have friends in the local VW club with 750K on a gasser, over a million with a diesel!

Q: Is it capable to remove a bicycle rack from a 1997 VW Jetta?
I recently bought a 1997 VW Jetta. I love love love the car but it has a bicycle rack on top which I don’t really like but I can certainly deal with it. Anyone know if I can get the rack taken off properly without damages the car?

A: i have a 98 jetta, and i removed my bike rack with no problems… im not sure if its the same on everyone, but mine was jus clipped on to the top… the clips are tough since they are on there for a long time, but with two people you should be able to take it off with no problem… jus watch ur fingers, i was too quick a few times and got my fingers and my skin caught! other than that a very easy job

Q: Where can I get a good roof rack for my VW jetta?
I have a 2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg edition. Does anyone have a jetta with a roof rack – does it look okay? What model do you have? How much do they cost?

A: Thule.com or I would try these websites because I bet there are a few used ones for sale. VWFixx.com vwvortex or jwelty. Good Luck.

Q: How do I change a starter on a 2002 VW Jetta?
Can someone give me a step by step guide on how to change a starter on a VW Jetta, or refer to a website that can help?

A: Get a Haynes manual for your car. Easier to read than Chilton and you can get them for just about any car. They have them at Half Priced Books and other bookstores for a lower price but they will tell you just about anything you need to know about your car.

Q: How does the VW Jetta TDI handle on winter roads?
