A: Depending on your budget, you can’t go wrong with a Gen III engine. You can go anywhere from the 5.7 LS1 to the 7.0 C5R engine. YearOne makes a kit to put this engine in your car! (link below)

There are several advantages to these engines. First, the head design of these engines is superior to Gen 1 and 2 engines, especially for power on a budget. A traditional SBC has 23 degree heads, while a Gen 3 has 15 degree for better airflow. Second, the LS1 (5.7), LS2 (6.0), LS3 (6.2), LS6 (5.7), and LS7 (7.0) are all aluminum engines…and will shave about 150 lbs off the front of your car, assuming you have an iron block/head engine now. That might not seem like a lot, but believe me, you will notice the difference. Third, they are fuel injected and will give great throttle response and fuel mileage. Also, if you could find a wrecked car to get parts from, you could get an ECU, transmission and engine together and make life simple. Just to give you an idea about power and economy, my 99 Formula has an LS1 that delivers 440hp to tires, it has a 4L60E automatic, and 3.23 gears. The car will go 11.6 in the quarter all motor, 10.7 on bottle, and gets 26 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 70…with the a/c on! The car now has 88,000 miles and has been driving fairly hard since 20,000. It has been well maintained, but not babied…it’s still going strong.

A: alright, first off,this is a question you should research yourself. second, camaros don’t come in 5 seaters bud. and what is so special about a 2002? 2001’s are just as good, so are 2000’s and 1999’s (98’s have electrical problems).

A: Unless you’ve checked the fuse with a meter don’t rule it out. I have been fooled by fuses that looked good but read open with a meter. Not uncommon for them to blow in such a way as to not be visible. If you have a volt meter, check the voltage on both sides of the fuse, that way you’ll know if the fuse is good and if you have voltage up to at least that point.

A: “A Roller”? That leaves a lot open to interpretation. If its just a “roller”, it could mean the interior’s shot, the wiring’s mangled or missing, not to mention a bunch of small miscellaneous parts that may or may not be easy/cheap to replace. A “roller” means you had better be prepared to work to get this car on the road again.

If the body is in good shape, with most/all the parts there, and there’s no rust, then it may be worth 1200 or so, but even that’s a pretty wide guesstimate. There’s no “numbers matching” – nothing to really make that Z28 all that special in terms of future collectibility.

Questions to ask – ask as many as you can, and get yourself physically under that car. Look for solid rear frame rails, rust in the trunk, foot wells (particularly in the driver’s side and rear, where the plugs can rust out). Also, look for rust at the base of the rear window, and rusting in the quarters and inside the rear wheel housings. The frame rails, if rusted, are a clear indication you should avoid this car like the plague. Look for signs of poor repairs, excess bondo – these cars are regular recipients of gallons of the stuff.

You can make the car an automatic fairly easily – although that would be taking a lot of fun out of that car – a four speed second gen is a blast.

A: Right now, GM is concentrating on the US and Canadian market. There are no plans as if yet to export to other countries. If you didn’t know, there is a huge demand for 2010 Camaro’s and GM cannot keep up with demand. There are at least 100 customers a day coming into my dealership wanting to buy new Camaros and we only get about one a day.

A: Well being 5th gen aint out in mass pro yet. It’s hard to rate those just based on what road test info is out there.

Best can mean alot..
There’s no one generation camaro that does everything well.

1st and second gen had the power (up till ‘74 at least), but didn’t handle too well,

The later 4th gens had the power

The third gen had the best handling out of all of them, but power in stock form sucked..

Third gen and 1st gen was the lightest ones

Second gen was the heaviest

To me, based on opinion the second gen had the best looks

The 4th gen was the hardest to work on, and mod

The third and 4th gens had the weakest rear ends

As you see, it just depends on what your looking for..

Myself I wanted light weight, good handling, and quick 1/4 mile times..

So I started with a 1988 camaro (third gen) and modded it to fit my needs.. Rebuild 350 (355), 10.18:1 compression, 4bbl carb, th-400 trans, 2800 stall, ford 9″ rear with 3.89 gears, re worked suspension, etc, etc and got a street car that handles like its on rails, drive it anywhere, run 11.40’s @ 118 at the drag strip

The V8 is generally considered to be more reliable (about 140000 vs 120000 miles) is average, but with GM it’s a crapshoot: either really good or really crappy car

Q: How do you replace battery cables and connectors on Chevy Camaro?
I have a 98′ Chevy Camaro 3.8L V6 Coupe and I need to replace the battery cables and connectors because my current ones are corroded by battery acid. Yet, I have no idea how to do that. I have very little experience working on automobiles. Any advice would be great!

A: There are two many cables. The positive which is Red and the negative which is Black. When removing and installing the cables, always disconnect the negative battery cable before performing repairs. This is also the last thing to be connected. This will prevent you from shorting out the electrical system.
The battery terminals are a side mount and the battery is a 78 series. The bolts are 5/16′. The negative cable runs down to the side of the engine and is attached with a 9/16′ or 14mm bolt. The positive cable runs down to the starter and is attached using a 15mm lock nut. This can sometimes be tricky to remove because the terminal stud on the starter solenoid can come loose while trying to loosen the lock nut. To prevent this from happening, hold the cable with your other hand while loosening the lock nut.

What would i need to make a chevy camaro 2010 have a 1000 HP? Also how much will everything cost?

A: Install the highest compression forged pistons you can get. Strongest H-beam rods. Have the block blueprinted, and a machine shop perform there best services on it. Have the whole rotating assembly balanced. Get the heads ported, and polished with bigger valves, and have them put a 7-angle valve job on them. Port and polish the intake manifolds. Get the biggest throttle body you can find. You’ll prolly need some bigger fuel injectors. Get some stronger valve springs, and higher ratio rocker arms. Put the biggest cam you can find in it. I’d put a double roller timing chain on it, or go gear drive. Long tube headers, with true dual exhaust. With an x pipe of course. Then if you have enough money put a turbocharger, or supercharger on it. This isn’t the best idea to run boost on a high compression ratio, but with stron internals, and a balanced rotating assembly, with a lot of tuning it can be ran safley to the engine. You also have to run high octane. More than likely race fuel with the compression ratio you’ll be running. If you wanted you could put low compression ratio pistons in it, and run boost. That way you could run it without race fuel. Expect to put down a few hundred to a few thousand to have it dyno tuned, and setup perfectly. With all that you should be able to get your numbers your wanting. Expect to put down 15,000-30,000 dollars during this build! lol

im looking to buy a 1994 Chevy Camaro and its a mahogany reddish color, a color that i really do not like, and im looking to go to a Maaco and buying a new paint job. and i was just wondering how much it would cost me.

A: That depends on how much paint you want, how much you want painted (the engine compartment and sheet metal underneath the interior will still be that ugly red), how many layers it’ll take/you’ll want, and of course, the main killer, labor.
Plus, you’ll want a quality paint job, otherwise you’ll regret it. If you go to Maaco and get a cheezy $500 paint job, it’ll show. The paint might be cloudy, body parts might not match, there could be bubbles in the paint, etc.
If you want a high-quality paint job, you’ll have to shoot for the 4-figure area.

In the end, it would be better to look for another ‘94 Camaro. You could at least get a color you like if you keep looking, and God knows there’s tons of them out there if you look.
I suggest going to http://www.craigslist.com or http://www.autotrader.com (both sites I used when I was looking for my ‘98 Camaro). If you live in the OC area of California, you can also check out the Recycler. Some good cars go through there.
Never settle for less than the best, even if you have to look for a while. I spent two months looking for my Camaro, and my dad spent 6 months looking for his.

A: It would cost more for you to convert than it would be to repair the window. More than likely the window motors must be replaced.

A: Hooker, Headman and Blackjack all make them for your car, trick is to order them for a 1987 with 5.0 or 5.7 engine but make sure you tell them 1987 model year. the headders will have the proper bends and collectors for that year and design, then go with Magnaflow from the headders to tail pipe for proper fit

I know you can buy a shift kit for a camaro, but is it possible to just go to a junk yard, find an f-body camaro and interchange the manual transmission? Any ideas, helpful hints and links will be amazing.

A: You’ll need to get a bell housing and drive shaft for a manual tranny, and the shift kit, as well as all the clutch parts, and maybe the cross member. It’s been a while, so you might want to do a search on it.

I recently bought a 1983 Camaro with T-tops and all there is a lap belt. I have had three Camaros before but none with T- tops and I never been in a Camaro of that year with T-Tops. I looked around the car to see if it was just missing but it doesn’t look like it.

A: 1965 was the first year for seat belts had to be in the car buy law, 1969 was the first year for shoulder belts had to be in the car and again by law.

A: it was called an H.E.I. system [ High Energy Ignition] …it contained a ignition module , a pick up coil , a rotor ,a mechanical advance, a distributor cap , & a large ignition coil mounted on the top, with a plastic cover over it. some model,s were equipped with a vacuum advance pod & some were not…they discontinued the vacuum advance because it would move the distributor back & forth effectively breaking the pick up coil wiring , these unit,s were good ignition system,s but were too high in voltage..there were many report,s of spark arcing through the rotor & around the inside of the cap…high temperature,s caused module failure often…the use of a dielectric silicone compound or gel helped to alleviate this problem….I hope this was enough information….good luck with your camaro.

Q: My 95 Camaro is missing real bad when I drive since replacing the serpentine belt?
About two weeks ago the serpentine belt on my Camaro snapped upon ignition (it was really cold and the belt was obviously bad). Now when I drive, the car is missing really bad. Almost sounds like a backfire, it shakes all the time (gotten worse over time, wasn’t all that bad at first) and upon start up I smell gas inside the cabin. Is it just out of time real bad or something worse? Please help, I love this car!

A: First of all, there is ABSOLUTELY no need to check the damn timing after putting on ANY serpentine belt. As far as the broken belt knocking off a wire….no! That is impossible on one of those engines be it 6 or 8 cylinder.
Take it to a shop and have it looked at. You either inadvertently disconnected something or you have a new unrelated problem.

Q: What generation era of the Camaro do you all think looks the best?
I have a 3rd Generation Camaro & it’s the awesome small block 350 with some mods. I have the 88 IROC-Z & in my opinion it looks better than the 4th Generation Camaro’s. I like them all except for the 70’s look. Tell me what you all think.

In my oppinion it should be fairly easy, your 91 probably has a 700R4 (these are the same as 4L60e except for electronic shifting) which they put in Camaros from 1984 -1993 .

Is your Transmission in the 1991 bad? Becasue the only difference between the 2 transmissions, that I am aware of is the 4L60e has the electronic shifter.

Does anyone have any idea of how much it would cost to have the driver’s side power window motor replaced on a 2000 Camaro? I have replaced the switch and checked the wiring. Once in a while it will move a few inches, but then takes forever to get it back up. Any hints?

A: The motor itself will cost about 70 at a local parts house or you can buy the motor/regulator for about 200. If you replace it yourself you need a good drill pit and a punch to pop out the factory rivots if it has never been changed before. You will have the separate the motor from the regulator if you are just changing that piece. It is not that hard of a job if you have patience but you be careful of the glass breaking when you take it lose from the regulator. Tape it to the top of the door to hold if you are alone.

A: Production has partially started(with pics off the assembly line to prove it)…some of the suppliers GM used went under and they needed to get some things back from them.

April is the month now provided there isn’t another delay. Not 2010, not August like others have said. March 16th is the full production date and they’ll start to trickle into dealers at the end of March/early April.

A: Not employing very poor, amateur, psychology to your question,(I won’t point fingers) The BB platform will probably fit with a bit of work. Chevy offers a body in white campaign that allows you to purchase just the body/chassis of the new Camaro for racing purposes. That would probably be your best route, as you could spend the money you would spend on that motor on the stock motor of an SS and get the same hp numbers, without the extensive modification of the basic vehicle control systems.

A: well i have read they will be from 20 thousand to 40 thousand plus.
the v6 is going to have the same engine as the cts but that is just for a low end option. the colors are silver ice metalic, victory red, black, rally yellow, aqua blue metalic, inferno red metalic, cyber grey metallic, red jewel tint coat, imperial blue metalic, and white. A: The GK SRT8 has a base price of 44K, the Camaro 1SS starts at 32K, and although the Jeep will launch better due to the AWD, once you are past 30 MPH the Camaro will kill it. And handles much better.

On to your question – unless you are greatly exaggerating the amount of snow you get, the Camaro could be OK, but you will need to put winter tires on it, the standard wide performance tires will probably suck in the snow on a RWD car. What do most people that live there drive? Are there many RWD cars, or do most drive FWD or AWD cars?

A: Josh, the Camaro goes 0-60 in 4.6 for only 30K, compared to the GT500’s 42K so maybe you should just STFU.

It depends on the Stage of the Roush. Definitely get the SS, and you can beat most Roushes with that. Do a few mods: intake, exhaust, headers, etc, and you will be unstoppable.

The V6 is really fast, but cannot tackle a car in the Roush’s league.

I just a new 2010 camaro about a month ago and I don’t know how to properly get it washed/detailed etc.. should i go get it hand washed or drive though? so far i’ve been going to the HEB touch free thing but it doesn’t really get it shiny and super clean. also, i heard wax is bad for it and that i should get acrylic paint conditioner if so, how do i do that and how often?

A: You can also just hand wash it, and I can’t stress enough how important it is to USE AUTOMOTIVE SOAP… Don’t use dish soap like some dim-wits, it’s really hard on the paint.

After that’s done and it dries give it a coat of wax, I use cleaner wax on my Black Blazer and it comes out looking like new, which says a lot because its met a few tree branches in it’s life.

Try to keep it out of the sun all day too, if you have a Garage, I’d be storing it in there, and don’t park it under trees… tree sap is a pain to take off.

A: It will be hard the first to be sold will be to fans that want them so you may see a few used one after 8 months most of the time the first used ones to hit the markets are fleet rentals this car is not going into fleet service. Say 9 months after release you see a few if it has good miles and is not damaged then If it’s original MSRP was $25000 you could get it for $20000. It will take a while till dealer inventory gets heavy before the price will come down to a normal level. Plus GM is saying production will not be wide open like most of the other cars that will keep prices high for a while.

A: well considering the gear ratios and the fact that the car only gets 25 mpg on the highway because it’s transmission gears are relatively short (not because it is terribly unaireodynamic as previously implied). without the limiter, all stock; it should do just north of 170mph. there is a Popular Mecahnic’s article where a limiter-less Camaro supposedly ran 174 at Bonneville.

Also, if you want a good idea of the potential top speed, look at the 05-06 Pontiac GTO. roughly the same weight, slightly less hp(400 vs 425), and gear ratios. without the limiter the GTO would easily do 170+. Ditto for the pontiac G8/Holden Commador, which the Camaro shares most of it’s chassis and drivetrain with.

in fact…more than a few magazines have tested stock SRT-8 Dodge Challengers into a low speedometer indicated 180 range. in reality it was actually 168mph. so considering that a Dodge challenger is much heavier AND has the same hp, AND has less gears (automatic), a SS Camaro should easily do 170+mph.

Hey I am a 15 year old boy and I got my permit several months ago. Of course, I am already looking forward to getting a car when I turn 16 and I am a big research freak so I have been looking at all kinds of cars and reading all about them. My dad owns a Honda Motorcycle shop so he has a deal with the local Honda Automobile dealership where we can get all vehicles at a really good deal and even though everyone talks about the Civic for a teenager, I find it too girly and am more interested in the Pilot. My dad is fond of this choice, however, the Chevrolet Camaro has obviously caught my eye, and surprisingly my dad is pretty supportive of both choices. Basically what I am wondering is if any of you think that the new Camaro would be a good car for a teenager. I know that what I type here isn’t going to have much meaning but I am a very responsible teenager and all that jazz, so safety and stuff isn’t the utmost concern (although I am fully aware that accidents can happen to ANYONE). Yeah so if you could just give me some advice as to what you would think would be a good car and if you think the Camaro or the Pilot would be a good choice. Money isn’t really a big deal, and I am very blessed to be in this situation and I don’t take it for granted, but the maximum cost I would say is around 35000, or maybe less. I do have roughly 15000 dollars that I have myself the past 2 years (it would take a while to explain how I made it) and my parents are willing to match that cost cuz of all my hard work. A: I’d say yeah. You’d be extremely lucky to own one especially as a first car. Just make sure it’s a V6.

I’d recommend a Focus Coupe or maybe a Cobalt if you want something a little slower. But the Cobalt SS is really fast. You can get a 2009 Cobalt SS for about 15K brand new. And it goes 0-60 faster than the EVO MR Lexus IS-F, Audi S5 Honda, S2000 CR, Dodge Challenger SRT-8, Lotus Elise SC, Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Dodge Caliber SRT-4, Volkswagen R32, and even the Honda Civic Si.

A: I am not sure about the waiting list but as to the price everything I have read puts the base camaro in the $20k range. I am sure you can expect the V8 convertable to be into the $30’s in 2010.

A: The Camaro is better. I have driven many Mustangs and Camaro’s made in the 90’s and 2000’s.
The Mustang is a piece of trash. All it does is break down. The engine is too loud. The car is too heavy and boxy. It has very bad handling. I do not see why people like it.
The new Mustang GT has 300HP and goes from 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 146mph.

The Camaro was always more fun to drive and faster, but it is also a heavy car and also has a bad interior design.
The new Camaro is said to have the current Pontiac GTO/Chevy Corvette engine, which has 400HP, and 400 torque.
If it will have that engine than its performance will be the same as the Pontiac GTO’s performance.
The new Camaro will go from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. Top speed is 160mph.

A: GM is having some little issues here and there with the car, it’s to be expected for a first year vehicle.

Mechanically(motor wise) it’ll be rock solid. The L99/LS3 motor is dead on reliable. It’s kind of hard to answer your question with a ton of details and facts since the car hasn’t been out that long.

As far as the Mustang goes…eh…it’s a slow turd. If you like the looks that’s one thing…but when the V6 Camaro only has 10 less horsepower than the Mustang GT, there’s something wrong lol.

The Mustang needs an overhaul drivetrain wise. They’re still using a motor that never made big power. It’ll be reliable, my mom has an ‘07. It’s nice I guess…I hate driving it but it’s not a bad car. I’d still take the new Camaro any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.

A: Chevy estimates the MSRP to start at $25K and up……..you do need to understand however that chevy has yet to name a release date and still professes the camaro to be just a concept with no plans for production!!

A: I am a 2008 Bullitt Mustang owner and I like the Challenger much better than the Camaro as far as for looks. The Camaro has an awful interior and very poor visibility. The Challenger is better done design wise in my opinion. I think I’ll keep my Mustang though.

My dad just got a brand new Mustang GT. I’m racking my brain trying to find something to get him for christmas and I thought getting him something for his new car would be great. Any ideas? Another freebie would be to have an extra door key made for him. A door key wont start his car but it will get him in if he locks himself out…See his salesperson for help on that. …..You could put that key in a nice wallet.

They also have adequate trunk space unlike the older mustangs.

I am in the process of changing my rear brakes on my 06 mustang and I’m unable to adjust my brake caliper piston to place over my new brake pads, the piston just wont budge, any help on it?
